Parents should encourage children to spend less time studying and more time doing physical activities. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Faced with the potential consequences from the heavy school workload, some parents suggest reducing their childrens pressure by getting their children to participate in more physical activities. From my perspective, however, I partially agree with this view.
On the one hand, encouraging children to exercise leads to many benefits. Most children are at a developmental stage, but this is also a vital stage when they are trying to complete their academic education. This process entailslong periods of sedentarystudy, which in turn may cause obesityand nearsightedness. Conversely, if children spend time exercising and participating in physical activities moderately, they will be in good physical condition, more efficiently focusing on their studies.
But on the other hand, what is more realistic is that students rarely make time to exercise because of the competitive pressure of education. In most cases, fairly good academic performance is the prerequisite if a child wants to go to a good university, and little weight are given to sports in the university entrance examination. Therefore, spending more time on studies rather than sports is more acceptable for most children. On the contrary, many children, lacking self-control, spend too much time playing basketball or soccer for escaping the burden of schoolwork, and even dream of becoming professional players, not realizing that only a very few will succeed. In addition, because different children have different constitutions, if a “ one-size-fits-all” approach is taken, such as requiring all children to run 2 kilometers every day, then some of them who are not physically fit for high-intensity exercise will feel unbearable.
Ø one-size-fits-all:一刀切
In conclusion, there are many merits of doing physical activities, but for children, this should not impact on their regular academic schooling.
